Mahana Goes Wild!

These photos are of some of my favorite parts of our Wellington camp. We went to the zoo, and saw many weird and wonderful creatures... baboons(much enjoyed by the class) chimpanzees, giraffes, tigers, lions, sun bears, ostriches, otters and so much more! Then we stayed the night at the zoo, sharing our room with a hedgehog, two blind rats, and two lizards. After a very exiting and packed week, we busked on the way home on the ferry, and made $40! We brought an ice-block each from our profits. Thank-you so much Whaea Jane and Mr.Neal and everyone else who made this cool camp happen!

The Power Of One

Briar, Izzie, and Georgia have been reading 'The Power of One' by Bryce Courtenay.
The book is about a young boy called Peekay who wishes to be the Welterweight Champion Boxer. Peekay is English and faces a hard childhood in South Africa. He starts of at a boarding school full of Dutch children and grows up to care for everyone. Peekay makes many friends during his challenging years, and learns that life is about everyone being happy and in on it together. This is the power of one.
Our opinion on this book: We like 'The Power Of One' because it challenged us enough to make the book interesting, but didn't bore us to death either! It also has many very stong morals we should all remember in life.
We recommend this book to 12 and over because it has some bad language and violence.
**** star rating.

Georgia's Holiday!

Hello Mahana! I'm enjoying my holiday in Hong Kong lots! I don't have any pictures to post yet, but please bear with my decriptions!
The buldings are massive! Way taller than the Sky Tower! Every night at 8.00 pm, they light them up with flashing lights and lasers, this is called the light show.
It is 8.20 am at the moment, and the time differnce beetween N.Z and Hong Kong has confused me heaps. The heat made me think it was late in the afternoon, but really in was 7.00 in he morning! And coming from a place where it gets really dark at 6.00, to a place where it is still light at 6.00, is very weird.
It is sweltering hot over here, love to hear how the weather is for you guys.
More Markets today, Ocean park tomorrow and I hope you guys are enjoyng your holidays as well.
Miss you guys so much!

Kapahaka

How many schools were there? I have no idea. But it was so fun peforming infront of those hundreds of people. On Wednesday, our kapahaka group went and peformed at the kapahaka fun day. We sang 6 really fun songs.

Our outfits were cool, the girls had a short black dress with a green koru on the side. The boys had a long black sash with a green stripe on it. It must have been really effective. We were told to wear green stone necklaces, or bone carving necklaces.

All through the day, Whaea Tania asked Maori quiz questions, and taught us new phrases like "rare rakau" which means "lollipop"

It was really cool peforming for other schools, as well as seeing their pefromances, learning heaps and coming together as one.

Hi!
These holidays, Me and my Family spent some quality time away at Paturau.
We stayed on a 2000 acre  farm owned by a guy called Harry, and we went for lots of walks to explore the place.
On one of the walks we went on, these are the things we found: A goat cave, a water fall amazing rock formations and a goats paradise.
Harry left us in charge of all his animals  including his friendly farm dogs.
They eat meat every morning. And they love it!
The best thing on this amazing holiday, was spending lots of time with my family that I usually don't get to have.
It sure was a holiday to remember.

My Tramping Trip

On Saturday, Me and my Dad went on a tramping trip together up Mt robert. It was a 2 hour trip nearly straight uphill, and Me being a really unfit person found it quite difficult.
We stayed in a hut called Bush Line hut which was one of the most flashiest hut I've ever stayed in.
The walk home was really interesting, because it was 1  1/2 hours trip, straight downhill.
It was really fun and great to go on an adventure with my Dad.

My SPCA Day

On Tuesday my Mum and I got to help out at the SPCA for a day.
The little white dog belongs to the SPCA as a pet, and her name is Tammy or Tim Tam and she goes home with Ruth every night.
The other dogs are called Honey on the left and Lucky on the right.
Mind you, there was a lot of cleaning to be done!!
Thanks to Craig (the boss) Carmen, Kate and Ruth, I had a great time!!!
