Marshmallow Challenge

The Marshmallow challenge is an international team building and technology challenge around the world.
The Marshmallow challenge was created by a guy called Tom Wujec who created it for team building. The task is who can build the tallest structure that can hold one marshmallow on top. You get 20 sticks of spaghetti, 1 metre of string, 1 metre of tape and one marshmallow also you have to do it in 18 minutes. The tallest structure is 99 cm and our tallest was 87.5 cm so we were close. Here are some pictures of us doing the Marshmallow challenge.

One Square Metre

The class made a 10,000cm square because we are working on area. Some of us didn't think that it would be 10,000 square cm blocks. We also had a black piece of paper which is 30cm x 30cm and the area of it was 900 square cm.

Book review - Mud Sweat and Tears

This book is an autobiography by Bear Grylls.
It goes through his childhood and what it's like to fail in the SAS and how to be resilient and to keep going. Also about his family in the Isle of White and growing up abseiling and hiking. It a great book for people who like to watch Bear Grylls and want to learn more about his life. I would recommend it for aged 9 to 14 and I rate it a 10 out of 10

Skateboard Art

This week we have been doing art inspired by an artist. My artist that inspired me is Mark Rivard. Mark is a skateboard artist who use sharpies on plain skateboard decks and creates awesome looking skateboards. I have made a skateboard deck that I spray painted white and put a red diamond in the centre. Then I came up with a design that I liked and then sharpied it onto the deck.

Here is his website if you would like to have a look at his artwork: http://markrivardskateboardart.com/

My pet peeve

My pet peeve is when Mum stomps into the lounge when I am trying to watch Top Gear and says, ''Hunter have you emptied the dishwasher yet?" "I usually say no its Lucy's turn to do it but that doesn't work." So what does she do, she turns the TV off right when its getting exciting and yells, ''Hunter do the dishwasher or else you won't be getting your Ipod for the next week." That usually does it for me because I like having my Ipod to play on. After the dishwasher is done it's usually back to the couch for me unless I have to do the chickens!!

Te Awhina Marae

Yesterday the whole school stayed the night at Te Awhina marae. When we got there we walked out to the front gate and the powhiri started. Once we go inside there were lots of wonderful carvings.  Everyone at the marae stayed awake all night because Mr Neal snored all night. In the morning everyone was stumbling around because they were so tired. Breakfast was really nice and there was hot milo and some of us put some coffee in our milo to wake us up. Next we went to Kaiteriteri and had a BBQ on the beach and played Ki-o-Rahi on the grass which was lots of fun. Then we went back to school and slept all the rest of the day.

The rubber tuby

Last Thursday Kotuku went rafting from Grossis Point around the wharf to the leisure park. Our raft was called the rubber tuby. We had to make them out of inner tubes, rope and 3 long branches. While we were still tightening our ropes our rivals the 'Post-mortem' were already launching so we raced down to the boat ramp while the 'Post-mortem' were already in the water. As we slid into the cold water the race was on. When we paddled out into the current we could see our rivals sinking. As we came around the wharf we started to paddle frantically to get into the leisure park to stop as from getting swept out to sea.....

Rock Fest

On the first of November Kotuku went to stoke school primary and intermediate school rock fest. There was a Kramer Pacer guitar to be won at the end of the day. There were 13 schools and the top college band the Peasants preformed for all the schools.

Our band Wet Cement played 3 songs "New Divide", "Rolling in the Deep" and "Bang, Bang, Bang". For all the three songs we all were marvellous and had lots of fun. I think we were the best band there apart from the Peasants and Waimea Intermediate.

At the end Pete (the principal of stoke school) drew a number out of the box. Number 12 fell out and was picked up; Mahana school had won an electric guitar! https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiStpEZCan-lYeV5Kw3D4pU9XYETadcHjJDTe2abAkJ2Z6CxP8ADm4959Fynp3KvMIl2AYB06c61HHb1eEKa01E-5jlaw-DaiwSVd4WMJabrhL-j1crZFiKDGehmqd82XO4kzup8_g4z8/s1600/kramer.kramerpacerft202s.kp20bmbh1-bm.jpg
We all had lots of fun that day!
