Quinn Earthquake Diary
Once I got back from the walk we had lunch and played some cards. Then we started talking about me going up to Nelson. I really wanted to go so I rang up nan and pop and asked if I could come up. Once it was ok we went to the neighbours because they had a generator so we could charge mums phone and MUM WANTED ME TO GRIND SOME COFFEE!!!!!!!!!!!! I did it and she had some coffee and watch the news.

Quinn - Earthquake Diary
The next morning when I woke up I thought I had to get up for school, but just then there was a huge aftershock and I remembered the screams and the crying, the pure destruction. But I managed to get up and have breakfast and i decided to go for a walk. I went in to my school and there was a helicopter there but i decided not to bother them and carried on walking.
It was horrifying seeing it all. The destroyed houses, cats and dog running around, people crying everywhere i looked. That is all i saw. I can't remember how I felt, or I don't want to.

So, what happened next? It felt like every time we walked into our house there was another big aftershock. We had to fill up the bath because the sewers would go into our water system which would create disease. That night Aunty Ady and Uncle Chris came to pick Nan, Pop and Eve up to take them back to Nelson where they would be safe.
That night there was no electricity. We had candles and two wind up torches. We had no clue what to do, so we had a bit of a snack, played some Last Card, then went to bed.

Quinn - Earthquake Diary

Dad was the first person there to pick up ther kids. When we got home mum was running down the driveway. Nan and pop were outside. I had to go through the house, my room was gone. Everything was on the ground. Once we were all together, Me and dad went to get the dog, we looked and looked and finally we found him. He was tied to a pole next to some people, we got him and said thank you and went home.

Quinn - Earthquake Diary
We were at school. We went to lunch about 12.30pm and after I'd eaten, I just went in to the classroom to put my lunchbox away. Then I went outside, about a minute before the earthquake happened. I was on the court when it struck. It's really hard to explain what it was like. I was being pushed up into the air, my feet left the ground. I saw the court cracking some distance away from me.
When it stopped, I was dazed and confused and I don't know why but I smiled. I saw kids and teachers crying on the ground. I saw the wall of our classroom fall down and the ceiling fell down . Huge clouds of dust arose from the ground. I knew I had to get everybody to the field in case they got crushed by a second shake. No one got injured at our school except for a minor injury.
